Concord Cup Update – May 14, 2008

Thank you very much to the referees that have signed up to ref games this weekend.  It is going to be a lot of fun.  We have about 489 referee slots that needed to be filled.  Currently we have 332 filled with 157 left to go.  More and more referees sign up each day, but it is slowing down.  There are still about 30 team referees that haven’t signed up for games yet.  I hope to have all games with 3 referees.  If you haven’t signed up for games yet, please do so now.

I have 23 championship game slots open for anyone that would like to ref the best games of the tournament.  Please contact me at concupref@gmail.com if you would like to participate in these championship games.

To sign up for games, please go to http://refscheduler.net/soccer/welcome2.asp

And click Section “2”, Area “C”, Region “999” and register as a new referee user.  This will allow you to assign yourself to games.

Friday evening registration:

On Friday evening, referees may stop by the Concord Hilton on Diamond Blvd. to pick up your referee coin, shirt and jacket – if earned.  If you are unable to come to the Hilton Friday evening, I will be at Newhall all day on Saturday and I will have your coins, shirts, and jackets.

Food and Water:

The Concord Cup will provide complimentary bag lunches and bottled water to those referees that are reffing around noon.  Each field will have a supply of bottled water and fruit throughout the day.  These will be available at the Field Marshal’s table.  It is scheduled to be HOT, HOT, and HOT!!!  Come prepared with sunscreen and lots of water.

Ref Table:

During the tournament there will be two referee tables set up, one at Boatwright and the other at Newhall, which is also tournament headquarters.  Steve Apana will be manning the table at Boatwright and Eric Dennis, Frank Brunamonti, and I will be at Newhall.  Please come by and say hi, look for referee openings, or view the tournament schedule.  You can also come by and see the teams updated scores.

Please review the tournament rules that can be found on our website at www.concordcup.com or I will have a full set on Friday evening and at the Ref Table during the tournament.

Some highlights of the rules include:

Match Length & Injury Time:

No additional time should be added to a match for injuries.  The schedule is extremely tight, and each game must start and finish on time.  The afternoon games are very dependent on the earlier matches.  Make sure you control the time management of your assigned games.  No exceptions.  Teams will be checked in by the field marshals for both rosters and equipment.  You shouldn’t need to do it again.  By the time the teams get to the field, they should be ready to go.  Teams should use the surrounding open space areas, if available, to warm up.  Again, please make sure your matches START AND FINISH ON TIME!

Rules – Red Cards:

The field marshals are being asked to hold onto the player ID cards during each match.  If you issue a red card during one of your matches, please be sure to inform the field marshal immediately after the game so the offending player’s ID card can be withheld prior to returning the cards to the team’s coach.

Thank you, good luck and I’ll see you on the pitch!
